Hello...My name is Alex and I will be coming to HK for a conference for school next week, the 15th of April. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good hostels or places to stay, as I will be free to roam around from the 21st to the 24th. I also was wondering if there are any interesting things that I must do while I'm there ie good underground dj's to listen to, firedancing, or other eclectic events while I'm there. I would like to meet some locals in the area, as I have never been to HK before and want to experience whatever I can while I'm there.
Thanks and Aloha,
Alex

Re: Visiting HK soon!...need suggestions!
Wed, April 13, 2005 - 2:29 AMohhh you're leaving soon
try the weird and wonderful
hkclubbing.com
if you have a specific music style / ie breaks, d+b, jungle
do a posting and usually you'll get a quick response
i've had good luck with it as an info site
also
a place to stay in hong kong is always big buck and super sketchy unless you have ca$h to spend
i think the standard chung king mansions is still available but it's rough
not in a bad way, but don't leave any money / cameras / designer clothing ect there while you go out
caritas has a hotel training program in yau ma tei and they have reasonably priced rooms as a result
food is also expensive
there's tons of GOOD street food
just make sure EVERYTHING you eat is HOT
avoid all tap water and generic ice and you won't get sick
shopping is one of the best things there is in hong kong
go to mong kok station on the mtr and wander around
if you can get your bearings, try to take more than one day to shop, remember what you liked and where it was, then head back if you can't find it cheaper anywhere else
you can almost always bargain but really not so much in stores
electronics / especially cameras and phones are a REALLY good deal in hk
shoes and clothing also
copy and original VCD DVD and games for all systems are easy to find in the weird litle malls
hk is pretty safe
don't get too drunk and piss the wrong person off
don't get too drunk and wake up next to a mysterious creature
good rules to follow in any country!
there are pockets of expats everywhere
if you're looking for them, you can find them
have fun

Re: Visiting HK soon!...need suggestions!
Sat, October 15, 2005 - 8:36 PMSo I will be floating around HK on the night of hte 19th and looking for some where to head to that night. According to that site, there are two hip hop nights, in town it seems, one at Les Visage and one at Hei Hei.
anyone have any recommendations? Any one know what sort of hip hop is at either?
anyone else know any other good sources to key into local scene?
thanks

Fri, May 5, 2006 - 10:21 AMGoing to HK at the end of June.
Any recomendations for hotels that aren't too expensive but are in the average price range. (less than 150/night, for sure)
